Gone with the Wind (1939),Part 1 & Part 2

Director Victor Fleming’s epic adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s romance novel set in Georgia at the start of the Civil War.  Starring Vivien Leigh as the head-strong Southern belle, Scarlett O’Hara, and Clark Gable as the swaggering opportunist, Rhett Butler.

 

 


Gettysburg (1993)

This engrossing film version of The Killer Angels, much of which was filmed at the actual battlefield, focuses on a handful of major characters to dramatize the events of July 1863.  Starring Martin Sheen as General Robert E. Lee of the Confederacy and Jeff Daniels as colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain of the Union Army.

 

 

 

Cold Mountain (2003)

In the waning days of the Civil War, a wounded soldier embarks on a perilous odyssey back home to Cold Mountain in North Carolina.  Young Inman is determined to be reunited with his sweetheart, Ada.  Based on Charles Frazier’s eloquent novel and starring Jude Law and Nicole Kidman.

 

 



Glory (1998)

This dramatic war film is based on the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, as told from the point of view of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, its commanding officer during the Civil War. Starring Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, and Denzel Washington.
